What are the pro-age eyeliner trends of 2024? That is the question.
The answer? The fashion and beauty industries didn’t care much.
Most trends you find in magazines and at Fashion Week will show you what’s trending for people under 40.
So we took what we found, and adapted it.
Flirtatious Fifty: Doll-like lashes and lined eyes with soft, feathery brows.
Cool Tones, Especially Blue: Blue takes the spotlight in eyeliners, mascara, and eyeshadow. Cooler shades are particularly good for women with brown or black eyes. What works for women over fifty? Navy, Green, and Slate-Gray are all soft, yet make the eyes pop…and all are cool hues!
Did you know? Best-selling PrimeEyes Glide is soon to be available in five 50-friendly, true-to-life shades.
Watch out for Emerald (green) and Smoky (slate-gray).
Soft Grunge with a Modern Twist: The nineties are back (still) and with it the soft grungy look. Smudged eyeliner contributes to the aesthetic. At 40 or 50+ you might not fancy being grungy, but for some of us, we can’t wait to unleash our inner Vivienne Westwood.
Graphic Eyes: There’s a clear graphic eye trend, including a focus on asymmetrical lines with simple options like double cat eye or extended liner.
Bold Color Washes: Vivid color on the eyes is expected, promoting self-expression. Sometimes simply using bold colored eyeliner. For more mature women, more subtle colors, like a woodsy green or navy blue, might be the most effective and still make a clear statement.
Bold Eyes as a Versatile Accessory: Bold eye makeup evolves with daring graphics, vibrant liners, and even rhinestones. There’s also a trend to focus on one thing or the other. Such as just a bold lipstick, or just bold eyes and making everything else fade into the background.
A pro-age eyeliner should be infused with skin and lash-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid and nourishing oils.
You want it to have a texture that enables it to slide easily over wrinkles, yet isn’t so runny it’s hard to create a straight line.
A pencil is best as you can smooth it out if you make a mistake. You also want it to be water-resistant, so that it’s mess-proof and you don’t have to redo your makeup every time you break a sweat or get teary-eyed.
Of course, you also want concentrated premium pigments to deliver deep, rich color that lasts all day without pulling on your lids.
Let the eyes take center stage—bold winged eyeliner, matching mascara, and soft feathery brows.
The rest of the makeup is natural-looking with a touch of blush and glossy bitten lips.
This is the perfect “flirty 50s” look—you can add some minimal earth/peachy-toned eyeshadow if you want something a little stronger for the evening.
How do you achieve this look?
Simply apply several layers of PrimeEyes Glide Kohl to the upper lash line, making sure the line gets thinner at the very edges of the line.
This look also puts the eyes in focus, but it’s less bold—it simply defines the eyes and makes them “pop.” A gorgeous look for mature eyes.
The makeup used here is pretty neutral but it adds a nice pink blush. Depending on your skin tone, that might or might not work for you. If it doesn’t, another subtle color will do the trick (peach, earthy tan).
To achieve this look for your eyes, you need to do tightlining - which means applying eyeliner to both the upper and lower waterline. In this case, eyeliner has also been applied to the upper eyelid, to create a bolder look.
PrimeLash Mascara enhances the effect.
For those sexy eyes, you might want to try a winged eyeliner that has a bit sharper “flick” at the end than in our first example.
This creates more of a “cat-like” effect.
The line is also thinner and the color softer than in our first example, making it subtle.
What’s more, a nice golden eyeshadow and sparkly lip gloss add a glamorous touch which goes hand in hand with those cat eyes.
To achieve this effect, simply apply a semi-thick layer of brown eyeliner (you’ll need more than one stroke, but make sure it doesn’t become too thick) following the contour of the top lid, but extend the eyeliner slightly beyond the outer corner of the eye in an upward “flick.”
This look requires double eyeliner, but the trick here is to apply eyeliner only to the outer corners of your eyes. For a “softer” impression than doing it all along the lash lines.
Here you apply eyeliner on both the upper and lower lash line, but you start around the middle of the eye with a very thin line that gets gradually thicker, especially on the upper eyelid.
There’s no doubt applying some eyeliner can brighten your eyes and bring out the beauty in them. If you struggle with application, here are some tips:
Got ‘em pesky hand tremors? Define small sections of your upper lash line one at a time—doing it bit by bit can be easier. It also helps if your eyeliner weighs the right amount and counters these tremors.
PrimeEyes Glide (assuming you use our fabulous eyeliner!) is buildable. It dries within 60 seconds so wait a minute in between layers to avoid smudging. Still made a mess? Use the smudger to smudge the edge and remove the “mistake.”
Feel like eyeliner is just too much but still want to bring attention to your eyes? Try dotting your lash line in between lashes. It gives the impression of thicker lashes! Compliment the look with PrimeLash Mascara.
